The Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) was named after His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, and Ruler of Dubai.
At MBRU, we have embraced His Highness’ principles of respect, integrity, innovation and advancement, and aim to be a leading medical and health sciences university. The university was established on an integrated platform that supports healthcare education, research, and early clinical practice for our students and faculty.
With directives from His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Dubai Healthcare City Authority (DHCA) announced the setting up of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences.
Through the Commission for Academic Accreditation (CAA), the Ministry has accredited all MBRU graduate and undergraduate degree programs. MBRU, located in the Emirate of Dubai, is officially licensed by the Ministry of Education of the United Arab Emirates to award degrees and qualifications in higher education.
On June 9, 2016, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, issued the establishment law of MBRU No. (7) for the year 2016 along with Decrees No. (22 and 23) appointing His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum as Chancellor of the University and Chairperson of MBRU’s Board of Trustees.
In the presence of His Highness Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Chancellor of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU) and Chairperson of the Board of Trustees, MBRU celebrated the first graduation of 33 postgraduate dental students from its Hamdan Bin Mohammed College of Dental Medicine (HBMCDM).
The Summer Studentship Placement Program gives medical students the opportunity to immerse themselves in a wide range of healthcare environments and settings in the UAE and globally. This broad exposure is a key element of the transformative learning experience that MBRU offers. The program is now called MBRU’s Summer Scholars Program.
A first for the UAE, a whole genome sequencing of an Emirati Boy with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) was conducted at MBRU, as part of a collaborative research with the Autism Programme at Al Jalila Children’s Specialty Hospital, in Dubai Healthcare City.

MBRU is honored to be part of the historic mission to space through the work of our very own Dr. Hanan Al Suwaidi, Assistant Professor of Family Medicine, who was chosen as the First Flight Surgeon responsible for the health and wellbeing of Hazza AlMansoori, the first Emirati astronaut launched to space.
The Summit brought together healthcare providers and decision makers spanning various sectors to analyze the impact of social media on healthcare and chart the best way forward.
The College of Nursing and Midwifery is launched to provide a range of postgraduate courses of study alongside an integrated and aligned program of research and scholarly activities, that are in keeping with the ethos of MBRU and that is to be nationally responsive and globally connected, serving individuals and communities.
The program provides students with intellectually stimulating education and practical skills in the field of biomedical sciences, with a particular focus on advanced genomics, OMICs, genome editing, and cell biology.
The program will allow students to gain invaluable insights and experiences across the full spectrum of dental care, from endodontics, periodontology and prosthodontics, to pediatric dentistry, orthodontics, and other oral surgery specialty practices at the Dubai Dental Hospital (DDH), MBRU’s clinical arm, and the largest dental hospital in Dubai.
Launched in March as a way of engaging people from all works of life to play a part in the fight against the virus, the first course of MBRU Community Immunity Ambassador program, titled ‘Let’s Break the Chain of COVID-19’, sensitizes people to the chain of infection, details how infectious diseases are transmitted, and puts forward solutions to break the chain of infection through concrete preventive actions. Successful completion of the course results in the user receiving a certificate as an MBRU Community Immunity Ambassador.
