Train the Trainer Program

We’re excited to introduce our comprehensive Train the Trainer (TOT) program, designed to elevate our faculty’s educational skills within the medical field.

Our program is built around the CANMEDs framework, ensuring a thorough understanding of the diverse roles a medical professional play. By participating in our TOT program, you will:

Trainee Educational Resources

1.Enhance Your Wellbeing: Compassionate & Resilient Trainee: Strategies for Thriving in GME

This course is a unique and enriching program designed to support the multifaceted wellbeing of medical trainees. This course, structured into 8 modules spanning almost 200 chapters, is tailored to foster resilience, compassion, and a thriving mindset in the demanding environment of Graduate Medical Education (GME).

Key Features:

• Asynchronous Learning: Engage with the material at your own pace, ensuring flexibility around your demanding schedules.
• Interactive Virtual Meetings: Participate in weekly virtual sessions for real-time engagement and support from peers and mentors.
• Diverse Learning Activities: From reflective exercises to practical assignments, the course is designed to facilitate deep learning and personal growth.

Curriculum Overview: Our curriculum is grounded in a robust competency framework focusing on four crucial areas of wellbeing: mental health, social health, physical health, and technology & digital health. Each module is meticulously mapped to these competencies, ensuring comprehensive coverage of essential topics such as mindfulness, stress management, emotional intelligence, interpersonal skills, community engagement, nutrition, exercise, and responsible technology use.

Expert Faculty: The course boasts a diverse panel of experts, including wellbeing experts, physicians, psychologists, nutritionists, physical therapists, and more.

This course is an invaluable resource for any medical trainee seeking to balance the rigors of professional training with personal wellbeing. Discover strategies for thriving in GME programs and beyond, fostering a holistic approach to your health and professional development.

2.Simulation Courses

a) Medical Internship Simulation Bootcamp

A special two full days training designed to teach medical interns important skills and knowledge and prepare them to work independently under the required supervision upon completing their internship year.  A team of experts in medical education and experienced clinicians have developed this two-day program, which takes place four times a year at the MBRU Simulation Center. The simulation center is set up to look and feel like a real hospital.

During the bootcamp, interns will practice real-life medical situations in different areas like:

• Pediatrics (children’s health)
• Obstetrics (childbirth and care of pregnant women)
• Cardiovascular (heart-related issues)
• Trauma (emergency response to injuries)
• Anaphylaxis (severe allergic reactions)
• Asthma (breathing problems)

Interns will be split into small groups to make sure everyone gets a chance to learn and practice. There will be feedback and reflection given at the end of each session.

b) ENT and Neurosurgery Simulation Workshops

Special two-day Cadaver Course for residents including intensive workshops with expert faculty. The workshops are designed to cover a range of procedures and techniques critical to these specialties.

The ENT workshop includes temporal bone dissection, rhinoplasty, snoring and sleep disorders surgery, Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS), and more.

The Neurosurgery workshop encompasses various approaches to brain surgery, ensuring a comprehensive understanding and practical experience in neurosurgical procedures.

These workshops are planned to run annually, offering detailed insights into common procedures, hands-on cadaveric dissection, and interactive sessions led by experienced program directors.

c) Ophthalmology Simulation Program

To enhance the hands on skills for our Ophthalmology Residents, MBRU GME now has an advanced simulation program, featuring the innovative Eyesi® Surgical Simulator. This unique offering is a first in the UAE, providing opportunities for mastering ophthalmic surgeries, including phaco and retina surgeries. The program utilizes both artificial and natural eyes for practice, ensuring a realistic and enriching learning experience. The inclusion of high-end surgical microscopes and instruments further enhances the practical aspect of this program, making it a cornerstone for ophthalmology training.

State-of-the-Art Facilities and Expert Faculty Our simulation programs are hosted at the MBRU Simulation Center, equipped with the latest technology and setups mirroring real-life medical environments. The programs are brought to life by a team of expert in house and external faculty and experts in medical education, ensuring a high-quality, immersive learning experience.

3.Health System Sciences (HSS)

The Health System Science (HSS) curriculum at MBRU is designed to provide interns, residents, and fellows, with an understanding of the multifaceted nature of contemporary healthcare systems. This program covers crucial topics such as health system dynamics, quality improvement, value-based care, and health policy, aiming to prepare participants for effective navigation and potential enhancement of the healthcare systems they will operate within. The course is delivered with guidance from designated QI and executive coaches.

The curriculum includes both in-person and online engagements promoting a collaborative learning atmosphere conducive to deep exploration of complex topics.

A unique aspect of the HSS curriculum is the inclusion of a project component as an opportunity to apply the learned competencies in a practical setting, focusing on areas such as quality improvement, patient safety, health informatics, and more.

Overall, the HSS curriculum at MBRU, enriched with interactive sessions and a practical project component for fellows, equips medical trainees with the necessary tools to thrive in and contribute to the evolving landscape of healthcare, ensuring they are well-prepared to address the challenges and opportunities of modern healthcare systems.
