Dr. Cook has collaborated with colleagues across the Mayo Clinic and from multiple other institutions. His interests include: Educational technologies, such as simulation-based education and computer-based learning; Clinical decision making, with a focus on designing instruction to enhance such skills; Assessment methods, such as the development and evaluation of instruments to ensure that they provide valid results.
Professional highlights
Dr. Cook received a BS degree from Utah State University and MD degree from the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He was a resident in Internal Medicine and a Fellow in Advanced General Internal Medicine at the Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. He received a Masters in Health Professions Education at the University of Illinois in Chicago.

Dr. Grace Huang was named Dean for Faculty Affairs effective July 2021. In directing the Office for Faculty Affairs, she is responsible for the strategic leadership, oversight, planning, and implementation for the Faculty of Medicine, including the recruitment, retention, academic promotion processes, and career advancement of our faculty through professional development programming, resources, and celebration of their accomplishments. Dr. Huang currently is a hospitalist at Beth Israel Deaconess and a nationally recognized educator with expertise in faculty development and educational scholarship.

Dr. Davis has had a long and distinguished career in medical education, focusing on the effect of continuing professional development in guideline implementation, knowledge translation and quality improvement. Over these years, he has been dean of continuing education in the Faculty of Medicine, University of Toronto, and professor of Family & Community Medicine and Health Policy, Management & Evaluation (1994-2007); vice president/senior director of the Association of American Medical Colleges, leading its national efforts in continuing Education and Performance Improvement (2007-2016); and finally professor of medical education in the Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine & Health Sciences (2017-18). He and his colleagues have captured grants totaling several million dollars, and authored over 200 peer-reviewed papers, abstracts and book chapters, and three major books on CPD practices. He is also an accomplished fiction writer, with two novels published and available on Amazon.

Dr. Whelan became the AAMC’s chief academic officer in January 2021. In this role, Dr. Whelan oversees efforts that prepare and assist deans, faculty leaders, educators, and future physicians for the challenges of 21st century academic medicine. She leads a staff that addresses critical medical school data, administrative, and operational issues; explores new models of successful mission alignment; focuses on key student and faculty issues; transforms current models of education and workforce preparation across the full continuum of medical education; and supports medical school accreditation activities. Prior to joining the association, she served as a professor of medicine and pediatrics at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis (WUSTL School of Medicine).
