Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif
Dr. Amer Ahmad Sharif is the CEO of Dubai Academic Health Corporation and President of Mohammed Bin Rashid University of Medicine and Health Sciences (MBRU). He is also the Chair of Dubai COVID-19 Command and Control Center.
He pursued his passion in healthcare by completing his medical training (MBBS) and attaining a PhD in Public Health from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UAE University and an MSc in Healthcare Management from the Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland (RCSI).
Throughout his career, Dr. Sharif was recognized for his work nationally and internationally receiving various accolades, a recent one being the first RCSI Alumni to receive the RCSI’s “Positive Global Impact Award” for his role in establishing MBRU.
Dr. Sharif is also an active member on several prominent Councils including the UAE Genome Council, the Emirates Research and Development Council and the Advisory Board of the 4th Industrial Revolution Center in the UAE.
He is also a Visiting Scholar at the Thomas Jefferson University – Sidney Kimmel Medical College – Asano-Gonnella Center for Research in Medical Education & Health Care.
Dr. Sharif has extensive experience in the UAE healthcare system and has held several key roles in various entities including Dubai Health Authority (DHA). His research interests focused on challenges and reforms within the UAE health system and future strategy.

As the inaugural Vice Chancellor of MBRU, Dr. Sharif worked on guiding the University since inception. He has advocated for integrating academia and clinical practice in the UAE to ensure an optimal academic experience for learners as well as to advance health for the wider society. He worked on strengthening collaborations with international institutions such as Queen’s University Belfast (QUB), one of the U.K.’s leading research-intensive universities.
As the Chair of Dubai COVID-19 Command and Control Center, Dr. Sharif adopted a coordinated teamwork and evidence-based methodology, enabling management of an unprecedented pandemic. His approach was predicated on the UAE’s leadership guiding principle of balancing lives and livelihood.
A firm believer of the importance of aligning values with the workplace culture, Dr. Sharif adopts a value-driven leadership approach ensuring that the values of respect, empathy, teamwork, integrity and excellence are lived in practice by all team members.
