About the Program
One of our core goals at MBRU is to train and nurture scientists and support research in the medical and biomedical sciences in the UAE. The program will focus on broader themes of medical and biomedical sciences that capitalize on the areas of strength within MBRU. The program will also further provide prospective graduate students with a strong foundation in the frontiers of biomedical sciences through a variety of course work, as well as an intense laboratory research training. University Students & Graduates
Degree | Hold a Master of Science degree in biomedical sciences or a related subject with a minimum cGPA of 3.00 on a scale of 4.00.
Applicants with a Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences or a related subject with a cGPA of 3.7 out of 4.0, but do not hold a Master of Science degree may be considered for admission. |
Research | Applicants with evidence of research experience will be given preference. |
GRE | Applicants with a good Graduate Record Examination (GRE) General Test score will be given preference. |
Note:
- Applicants with university degree obtained outside the UAE, are required to submit an Educational Credential Evaluators (ECE) – General with Grade Average evaluation in US institutions when applying to evaluate the transcripts and have a standard GPA (http://www.ece.org).
IELTS Academic
- Minimum of band 6 with no skill less than 5.5
- ‘IELTS Indicator’ will not be considered for admission purposes
- A single certificate to be submitted, combined scores are not accepted

Notes:
• Applicants who are both native English speakers and have completed their most recent degree in an English-medium institution or a Master’s degree taught in English that required an IELTS (Academic) with overall 6 and no skill less than 5.5 or equivalent may be exempted from the English proficiency requirement subject to approval of the relevant Admissions Committee
• Applicants who are graduates from MBRU’s Master programs shall be exempted from the English requirement.

You will receive an application number when you create a login account. Please save your application number and use it in all communication with the admissions team. It is the formal unique identifier of your application to MBRU. Shortlisted applicants will receive an email communication for the next stage of admission process.
Exam
The online entrance exam will focus on the critical thinking (reasoning) required for a biomedical Ph.D. Candidate to examine their ability to assess a situation and consider/understand various perspectives, all while acknowledging, extracting, and deciphering facts, opinions, and assumptions. 15 scenarios as short paragraphs, figures or reports will be given in MCQs style, and the candidates will be asked to read and interpret the given scenario and pick one correct answer.
Interview
Shortlisted applicants will be invited for a personal interview.

*Please note that the seat-reservation fee is due upon accepting your conditional offer and is non-refundable. For students who enroll in classes, the seat-reservation fee will be deducted from their 1st semester installment.
Refund Policy & Special Circumstances
Document Attestation
All applicants for admission are required to obtain equivalency/recognition of their educational degree from the UAE Ministry of Education. The attestation process depends upon whether you completed your degree within or outside UAE.
Requirements for Equivalency/Recognition of certificate obtained outside UAE can be found on Ministry of Education website.
Transfer Admission Policy
- MBRU’s PhD in Biomedical Sciences program does not accept transfer of admissions, transfer credit, nor recognition of prior learning, due to the uniqueness and integrated nature of the curriculum offered.

Why study for a Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Sciences at MBRU?
Graduate education is an integral part of our mission, and consequently, MBRU has established a graduate program of high quality leading to a PhD in Biomedical Sciences. The program will provide the students with the opportunity to work with a diverse and talented research faculty and will match the student’s interest with the appropriate faculty member from day one.
The research work will take place in newly equipped, state-of-the-art laboratories with a focus on the genetics of developmental diseases, cancer biology, diabetes, cardiovascular, respiratory, and infectious diseases, pharmacology, male reproduction, lncRNA, stem cell biology, and tissue engineering.
Does the University provide accommodation?
